Officially launched globally on the 20th October 2016, the State of World Population (SWOP) 2016 report, under the theme “10…how our future depends on a girl at this decisive age” explores how the 60 million 10-year-old girls in the world today represent both a challenge and an opportunity for the global community. It further makes an intrinsic link between the life journey of a 10 year old girl in the next 15 years and what the world will look like in 2030 when the lifespan of the Sustainable Development Goals come to an end. The report suggests that how the world will look like in 2030, largely depends on whether we do all in our power to ignite the potential of the 10-year-old girl today.  "In many ways, a 10-year-old girl's life trajectory will be the true test of whether the 2030 Agenda is a success - or failure", observes UNFPA Executive Director, Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin
