Celebrated annually on the 08th of March, International Women’s Day is a time where nations all over the world reflect on progress made, celebrate the social, political and economic achievements of women, while also focusing their attention to areas still requiring further action. It is also a time to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

The theme for International Women’s Day 2017 is “Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030.” The idea of this theme is to consider how to accelerate the Global 2030 Agenda, building momentum for the effective implementation of the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls; and Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning. Achievement of the SDGs, including ending poverty, promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth, reducing inequalities within and between countries, and achieving gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls, rests upon unlocking the full potential of women in the world of work.

On the 08th of March, Swaziland will join the rest of the world to commemorate International Women’s Day under the theme “Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030.” The day will be commemorated at an event to be held at the Mavuso Trade Centre on Wedneday, 08 March at 9 am. The guest speakers will be the Honorable Deputy Prime Minister, Senator Paul Dlamini and the UN resident Coordinator, Mr. Israel Dessalegne.
